Mary Helen Castleberry 1929-2018

Memorial services for Mary Helen Spears Castleberry, 88, of Wills Point, were held Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point. Services were under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

She was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Wills Point, to parents, Sam Ed Spears and Juanita Maurine Stewart.

She was raised in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School. She continued her education at North Texas State (now University of North Texas); TSCW (now Texas Women’s University) and East Texas State (Texas A&M Commerce), where she earned her Master’s degree.

She married Blant H. Castleberry on Sept. 18, 1954, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church.

She worked for Exxon in Dallas, Wynne & Wynne, attorneys, and Wills Point ISD until retiring in May 1988.

She has been in the Wills Point Community since birth and was involved in a great many organizations: Member of RMUMC since 1938, Wills Point Historical Society since 1979, Van Zandt County Historical Commission since 2010, Fin & Feather Hunting and Fishing Club since 1957 and Thursday Night Bridge Club from 1956-2000.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam Ed and Juanita Spears and husband, Blant H. Castleberry.

She is survived by her son, Eddy Castleberry of Wills Point; daughter, Mary Ann Agan and husband, Jim, of Carrollton, Ga; grandchildren, Lauren Charles and husband, Landun, of Bryan, Cortney Castleberry of Bryan, Blaine Knowles of Atlanta, Ga, and Kyle Knowles of Dallas.
