Patricia Jones Selman 1970-2018

Patty “Patty” Jones Selman, 47, of Terrell, passed away unexpectedly, with her husband by her side, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas after being diagnosed with cancer on April 8, 2018.

She is survived by her best friend, husband and soulmate of 11 years, Allan B. Selman of Terrell; father, Hiram Jones of Wills Point; and sister, Suzanne Saint of Canton. She was preceded in death by her mother, Klara Jones.

She was born on May 24, 1970 on Kwajalein Island in the Marshall Islands to Hiram and Klara Jones. Her family eventually settled in Canton when she was a child.

She attended public schools and graduated with honors from Canton High School in 1988. She attended college at The University of Texas, East Texas State, and Trinity Valley Community College, earning degrees in accounting.

She worked the majority of her life in the insurance industry, and retained her real estate license.

She was 5’2”, 98 pounds, strong willed, sassy high heel wearing blonde with an East Texas twang.

She was a die-hard Heavy Metal fan. One room in her house had her lifetime collection of autographs, posters, guitars, and drum set.

She eventually became a big country music fan. She liked watching horror films, good or bad, and real life police investigating stories.

Her three dogs were her passion. Lexi her black lab, Xena, her Rottweiler, and her baby boy bird dog, Dudley. She saved all three and since she had no children, the dogs were her babies. She often went without just so she could care for them.

She was known as the little blonde in the black truck with two huge dogs in the front seat in Terrell. She loved taking them “Bye, Bye” often (everyday) to her favorite eating spot, McDonalds.

She was a staunch animal advocate and she loved watching football. She would attend high school games with her husband, watch her beloved Longhorns and Cowboys, always wearing the team jersey each time she watched.

On March 1, 2007 her life changed forever. She didn’t know then she was being introduced to her future husband, Allan B. Selman. On March 23, 2007, after several conversations, she went on a date with him. It was during the first date that she realized how much they had in common and that God finally answered her prayers and brought her soulmate to her.

From this first date, she and Allan were never apart until she passed. She would often brag to her friends that she wished she would’ve met Allan 10 or 15 years earlier and her life would’ve been much better. She truly believed that God brought her Allan. They would move to Terrell in July of 2007. They loved spending all of their free time with each other. They had date night every Friday for the first seven years they were together. They were inseparable. On March 23, 2012, five years to the day of their first date, they were married. She had no children.

In April of 2014, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It would eventually disable her. She retired in 2014. She still managed to get around with a cane and her scooter. She would go as fast as she could down the street with her dogs chasing behind her. She refused to be hindered by this disease and she and Allan still managed to enjoy their life together no matter what.

By 2016 the toll of MS began to affect her tremendously. In March 2018, she developed pneumonia and never got better.

On April 3, 2018, she was rushed to Baylor Hospital in Dallas and placed on life support. On April 4, 2018, her husband received the news that she had terminal cancer. On April 6, 2018, her husband tearfully removed the life support. She would fight for two more days.

On April 8, 2018, she passed and went to Heaven. Her best friend, husband, and soul mate held her hand until the end.

His last words to her when she opened her eyes for the last time were, “You don’t have to fight anymore, I will fight for you. I want you to go to Heaven and be YOUNG, BLONDE and BEAUTIFUL forever.” She was a gift from God. Her beautiful face and glowing smile will never be forgotten.
