Wilburn Wesson Anderson

1923-2017

Services for Wilburn Anderson were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Hilliard Funeral Home. 

A graveside service followed at Providence Cemetery, Van Zandt County.

Mr. Anderson passed away Oct. 1, 2017, in Tyler at age 93.

He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Cooper.  He had been a resident of Grand Saline since 1980, formerly living in Grand Prairie and Dallas.  He served honorably in the army during the Battle of the Bulge.  He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star among many other awards.  He worked as a welder and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Van.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Andrew Anderson and Mamie C. Watkins Anderson; and three sisters, Jane Jones, Billie Parker and Bobbie Guffy.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mildred Anderson of Grand Saline; stepchildren, Johnny Moore Sr. and wife, Maggie of Grand Saline, Linda Cottrell of Grand Saline, and Tony Moore and wife, Nancy of Rockwall; sister, Thelma Worley of Irving; grandchildren, Johnny Moore, Jr., Jasen Hilton and Clint Hilton and wife, Mary; and four great-great-grandchildren, Johnny Moore III, Clinton Dale Hilton, Matea Hilton and Clay Hilton.

Services for Brenden Kyle Hargis, 21, of Canton, were held Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Garvin Pulley officiating.

 Interment followed in Kreymer Cemetery in Wylie.

He passed away Oct. 6, 2017, in Canton.

He was born Aug. 28, 1996, in Athens to William Brian Boles and Donna Deann Marsh Boles.

He loved playing video games, Pokémon, watching movies, anime and listening to music.  He loved animals and had a good heart with a pure soul. His life was devoted to his wife, Deanna and son, Kyle. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Brian Boles; and his grandfather, Ronnie Boles.

Survivors include his wife of three years, Deanna Rae Williams; son, Kyle Soul Hargis; mother, Donna Marsh, all of Canton; stepfather, John Edward and Jessica Hargis of Rockwall; brothers, Presten and Kamren Hargis of Rockwall; sister, Ashlyen Crow of Frankston; stepbrother, Landon Hargis; stepsister, Sadie Hargis; grandparents, Rick and Linda Marsh of Canton; grandmother, Tina Boles; aunts, Shanna and Mike Baldree of Flower Mound, Marnie Marsh of Canton, Cindy Boles of Florida, Carla McVay of Forney, and Shiela Barbareus of Florida; cousins, Kolbey Gateley, Kaden Baldree, Kailey Baldree and Alexis Boles; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Don Harrison Plumlee, 81, of Myrtle Springs, were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Bro. Mike Stone and Bro. Brad LaFaver officiating. 

Interment followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan. Mr. Plumlee passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Coppell to Weldon Harrison Plumlee and Zelma Faye Simmons Plumlee.  He was raised in Coppell where he attended public school.

He married Lola Neal Sept. 9, 1974. They were married 32 years until her death in 2007.

He retired in 1996 as a maintenance supervisor from Dallas County Bus Service.

He lived in Quinlan and served two terms as a city councilman before moving to Myrtle Springs five and a half years ago. He married Patsy Shinn March 3, 2012. He was a member of Lifehouse fellowship church in Myrtle Springs.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping in his R.V. and going to casinos.  He was a kind, loving and caring person. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon Harrison and Zelma Faye Plumlee, and former wives, Lola Neal Plumlee and Opal Connell. 

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Jean Plumlee of Myrtle Springs; brother, Joe Plumlee and wife, Vickie of Canton; son, Don Harrison Plumlee Waller and wife, Sherry of Lakeside Village; daughter,  Debra Tuttle and husband, David of Southlake; stepdaughters, Linda Ard and Cleta Calk, both of Quinlan; niece, Jenn Craddock and husband, Jason, and their sons, Avery and Dylan; grandchildren,  David Hughes and wife, Kristin; Brittny Waller and David Waller; Stephanie Tuttle, Jon Tuttle, Aaron Tuttle, Cassie Casillas, Jenny Bartholomew, Royce Ard, Benton Ard, Jamie Calk and Nicki Ard; numerous cousins, great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews; and former wife, Vanara Waller of Decatur.

Pallbearers were James Plumlee, Richard Shinn, Jackie McBride, David Hughes, Jason Craddock and Brittny Waller.

Memorial services for Emma Jane Phillips, 91, of Athens, were held Sunday Oct. 8, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

Interment followed at Meredith Campground in Athens.

 Mrs. Phillips passed away Oct. 4, 2017.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1925, in Prairieville to Lee and Elsie Spainhour Williams.

She lived in the Walton Community for many years and was a member of China Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilmon Dean Phillips; and sons, Danny Phillips, Johnny Phillips and William Lee Phillips.

Survivors include her son, Dennis and Lynn Phillips of Elkhart; daughter, Elaine and Mose Trimble of Athens; grandsons, Walter and Wendy Phillips of Murphysboro, Tenn., Wendell Phillips of Eustace, Paul and Stephanie Phillips of Bellmead, Chris and Stacey Phillips of Paradise, Clay Trimble of Athens, and Cody and Brandi Trimble of Athens; granddaughter, Wendy and Matt Ottaberry of Walton; numerous

great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Alice William and Izora Williams; brother-in-law, Adrian Chamblee; sisters, Gladys Godwin, Mary Corley and Ruby Corley; brother, Orsborn Williams.

Vincent Siering Haneman Jr.

1924-2017

Memorial services for Major General USAF (ret.) Vincent Siering Haneman Jr., of Columbus, Ga., were held Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, with Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. Mr. Haneman died Aug. 29, 2017, at age 93.

He was born in Orange, N.J. to the late Associate Justice Vincent Siering Haneman, New Jersey Supreme Court, and Helen Harris Haneman. He attended school in Brigantine, N.J., and became an Eagle Scott, a member of the high school swim team and an accomplished life guard.

After graduation, he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a member of the swim team and Sigma Nu fraternity.

When WWII began, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 and received his commission as Second Lieutenant and pilot wings in 1944. He flew B25 bombers in North Africa, Italy and southern France. He was promoted to first lieutenant, received the Distinguished Flying Cross twice and the Air Medal eight times. He returned to the United States and enrolled at MIT in 1945. He received his Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering in 1947. His first position was at MIT on a missile contract.

He enrolled in the aeronautical engineering department at the University of Michigan in 1949. He was awarded the Master of Science degree in 1950.

He remained in the Air Force Reserve and served during the Korean conflict, assigned to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 1950. He was reassigned to the Air Force Institute duty station at the University of Michigan and then Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He received a PhD from the University of Michigan in 1953, with assignment to the Ballistic Missile Division in Los Angeles and as the head of the new projects in guidance and control. He resigned his regular commission and returned to civilian life in 1959 in Dallas, where he formed a consulting firm with contracts with Aerojet, Lockheed and General Electric among others. In 1960, he accepted a position at Oklahoma State University as associate Dean of Engineering. In 1971, he became Dean of Engineering at Auburn University; and in 1980, he became Dean of Engineering at the University of Alaska. He retired in 1991 as Dean Emeritus and Professor of Mechanical Engineering Emeritus.

He is a member of the scholastic honor societies of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. He also received the American Society of Engineering Education Centennial Medal, which recognizes individuals who made a significant and lasting impact on engineering or engineering technology education.

In addition to this decorated academic and military career, he also served as president of the American Society of Professional Engineers.

Two of his favorite organizations were the Boy Scouts of America and Rotary. He dedicated many hours to both organizations. He served on the executive board of the Chattahoochee Council of BSA, and chaired the Rotary Youth Leadership Committee. He was awarded both the Distinguished Eagle Award and Rotarian of the Year award.

In Columbus, he was a member of the Friday Friars, the DDS, and enjoyed his poker club and Rose Hill lunch group, all including his closest friends. He was a model railroad enthusiast and donated an extensive operating layout to a civic club in Louisiana.

He married Adelaide Dagoff Russell in 1961; she died in 1999. He married Barbara Mize Gilliam in 2002.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Frederick Haneman, and his oldest son, Vincent Siering Haneman III.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Charles Frederick Haneman and Celeste; granddaughter, Laura Haneman of Aiken, S.C., step-daughters, Rosalyn Tullos of Canton, Kaye Russell of Sedona, Ariz.; step-children, Otis D. Gilliam III, J. Woody Gilliam and Karen, and Martha Gilliam Hatcher and Madden, all of Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Holly Bullington (Stan) of Ft. Worth, Maribeth Furr (Randy) of Canton, Russell Hobbs of Dallas, Elizabeth Moss of Nashville, Tenn., Michelle Lindsey of Phoenix, Ariz., and Keith Kavisic, Bali; great-grandchildren, Alex Furr of Canton, William Hobbs and Sebastian Hobbs of Dallas, Emily Bullington of Ft. Worth, Hannah Bullington of Dallas and Nicholas Bullington of Houston.

He was a true servant, leader and a dedicated Christian who loved his family, church and country.

Services for Naomi Langley Marksbury, 80, were held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Jackson’s Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler with the Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating.

Interment followed at Haven of Memories in Canton. 

She was born Oct. 2, 1937, and entered life eternal Oct. 2, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.   Hers was a life well lived. She was born at home, the first child of Sam Mason and Myrtle Stanley Langley in Van Zandt County near Canton. Her father was a farmer and it was in that family farm setting that Mrs. Marksbury’s life values and aspirations were formed.  She graduated from Canton High School in 1956 and briefly attended Tyler Junior College before marrying and having a family.

She was a Christian. She was baptized into the Baptist faith as a young girl and attended First Baptist Church growing up.

While raising her two sons and working at Texas Rehabilitation Commission, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree at East Texas State. She later returned to college and earned a master’s degree in sociology and counseling.  She also received several certifications through continuing education in counseling.

She married the love of her life, Donald Marksbury in 1981 and they established and operated County Rehab facility in Tyler for many years.  After retiring, they enjoyed many wonderful trips to different parts of the world, including England, Egypt, Syria and Jordan, Norway, Russia, an Alaskan cruise and Hawaii with family members.  She also traveled to Peru where she was invited to judge a flower show.   The Marksburys were avid skiers and traveled to many places where they enjoyed skiing and sight-seeing.

In retirement, she developed a passion for gardening and became a Master Gardner and a Master National Flower Show judge.  She was a former member and past president of Azalea Garden Club, present member and former president of Green Acres Garden Club and a member of District III Flower Show Judges Council.  She especially loved growing orchids and was a member of Central East Texas Orchid Society.   She was also a member of AAUW and several other business organizations.  As a young woman, she followed her parent’s footsteps and became a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Canton Chapter 667.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Samuel Harry and Larry Bob Langley; her only grandchild, Teddy Maurice Robinson Jr.; her loving husband, Donald Lin Marksbury; and her son, Thomas Mason Robinson. 

She is survived by her beloved son, Teddy Maurice Robinson of Canton; nephews, Samuel Harry Langley Jr. of Carrollton, Larry Bryan Langley and wife, Michelle of Lantana; niece, Susan Diane Langley Pierce of Frisco and husband, Kyle; great-nieces and nephews,  Samuel Langley III of Canton, Mason, Merek and Maryn Pierce of Frisco, Emily and Evan Langley of Lantana; and sister-in-law, Brenda Boyd-Langley of Garland; as well as a host of wonderful, loving and devoted friends; and her sweet pets, Buttons and Franky.

Memorial services for Nelba Walters, 88, of Canton, were held Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at the Eubank Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with Dr. Mark Moore and Bro. Jan Westmoreland officiating.  Interment followed in Haven of Memories. Ms. Walters passed away at her home Sunday, Oct. 08, 2017.

She was born July 24, 1929, in Canton to Monroe Carroll and Ophelia Denson Walters.

She graduated from Canton High School in 1945.  She attended North Texas College for two years, then moved to Dallas where she started her 42-year working career, of which 25 of those years were with Charles Ramsey Construction Consulting Company as a general office manager.  In 1983, she and her sister built their retirement home in Canton.  She commuted to Dallas until she retired in 1987.  She was a charter member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she volunteered her accounting services for many years.  She is well known as the “Pie Lady.”  She was very involved in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Association as the secretary-treasurer for many years.  She was instrumental in getting the historical marker for the cemetery. 

Ms. Walters is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Carroll Jr. Walters in 2001. 

Survivors include her sister, Paralee “Biddy” Walters; first cousins, Martha and Charles Lide, James and Linda Sides, Kellis Walters all of Canton, Goode Rogers of Tyler, and Jan and Nita Westmoreland of Fort Worth.

Memorial services for Norma Marie "MeMaw" Hubbard, 87, of Murchison, were held Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.  Interment followed in the Edom Cemetery. 

Mrs. Hubbard passed away Oct. 9, 2017, in Athens. 

She was born March 24, 1930, to Leo Thomas and Loette Rebecca Stegman Scarborough.  

She was a Presbyterian by faith.  She was married to the love of her life, Bobby Glenn, for 67 years.  They lived in Dallas for many years before moving to Callender Lake.  She enjoyed travelling, square dancing and being a grandmother.  She was a charter member of the Friendship Club at Callender Lake.  She had lived in Oak Wood Assisted Living for the past four years. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Loette Scarborough; husband, Bobby Glenn Hubbard; and brother, Leo Scarborough Jr.

Survivors include her daughter and husband, Sherry and Jimmy McPike; son and wife, Keith and Doreen Hubbard; son and husband, Tom Hubbard and Jesse Berrones; four grandchildren, Julie Greenlee, Jay McPike, Holly San Miguel and Heather Hubbard; and nine great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be Dean Chisham, Jimmy McPike, David San Miguel, Jon Greenlee, Jacob Greenlee, Jay McPike, Brian Scarborough and Jesse Berrones.

Funeral services for Brenda Joyce Wilson, 75, of Scurry, formerly of Wills Point, were held Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point.  Interment followed at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Scurry. Mrs. Wilson passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 11, 2017, in Scurry.

 

She was born on Aug. 14, 1942, in Terrell, the daughter of Elias Weldon Honeycutt and Clara Belle Easterly Honeycutt.

 

She was raised in Terrell and graduated from Terrell High School in 1961. On Feb. 13, 1962, she married Paul Wilson in Terrell.

 

She was formerly employed by Kaufman I.S.D. as a teacher’s aide, where she later retired.  She enjoyed gardening, watching TV, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and going to church.

 

She lived in Kaufman prior to moving to Wills Point 10 years ago.  She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Terrell.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias Weldon and Clara Belle Honeycutt; husband, Paul Wilson; brother, David Lee Honeycutt and a brother-in-law, Herbert Harmon.

 

She is survived by three sons, Ricky Wilson and wife, Kristi, of Wills Point, Mark Wilson, of Wills Point and Chad Wilson, of Wills Point; two daughters, Debbie Gray and husband, Mark, of Scurry and Lisa Turner and husband, Glenn, of Wills Point; brother, Weldon Honeycutt and wife, Linda, of Rockwall; sister, Mary Harmon, of Kaufman; 13 grandchildren, Jodie Andrews, Chase Johansen, Brandon Gray, Brittany Sherwood, Kimi Smith, Amanda Crow, Dustin Wilson, Justin Turner, Ricky Paul Wilson, Brianna Gottschalk, Gavin Wilson, Jayden Wilson and Laney Wilson; and 11 great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were Chase Johansen, Christopher Sherwood, Herbert Harmon, Jr., Paul Andrews, Ricky Paul Wilson and Brandon Gray. Honorary pallbearer was Dustin Wilson.

After a courageous battle with breast cancer, Jackie Platter went to be with her Lord and Savior Oct. 15, 2017, in Tyler at age 68.

 

Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God were what gave her the strength to fight her battle with cancer for many months.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017. A visitation for the family will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.

 

She was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Borger to Jack and Pauline Garrard. She grew up in Quanah where she graduated from high school in 1967.

 

She moved to Canton in 1970 and lived there until 2015. She moved to Lindale after her diagnosis to be closer to her daughters.

 

Her greatest joys in life were her daughters, Tiffany and Misty, and her three grandsons, Collin, Jackson and Brayden.

 

It brought her such joy to attend any event or activity that her “boys” were involved in and she was always so proud of them.

 

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Pauline Dial and brother-in-law, Robert Walker.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Tiffany Graham, and Misty Hill and husband, Justin, all of Lindale; grandsons, Collin and Brayden Hill, and Jackson Choate; sisters, Linda and James Smith of Quanah, Paula Walker of Greenwood, Diane and Johnny Sursa of Stinnett, and Barbara Marshall of Canton; lifelong friend, Mary Frances Thorn of Edgewood; brother, Sonny Garrard and wife, Sandy of Quanah; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services for Judy Ann Clements, 72, of Ola, were held Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home in Kaufman. Internment followed at Prairie Springs Cemetery in Ben Wheeler.

Mrs. Clements passed away Oct. 11, 2017, at her home.

 

She was born on May 21, 1945, in Kaufman to J.D. and Alfa Howell. She married Leonard Clements June 10, 1970, in Canton.

 

She worked for the Kaufman County Clerk’s Office for 20 years, then she worked for Dr. Embry as a receptionist and retired after 20 years.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Clements, parents, J.D. and Alfa Howell, sister, Becky Sims, and nephews, Todd Charlton and Chad Sims.

 

She is survived by her brothers, Danny Howell and wife, Landa, of Kaufman and Jay Dean Howell of Ola; sisters, Linda Hutchison of Cabot, Ark. and Debbie Charlton of Ola; brother-in-law, Virgil Sims of Kaufman; seven nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.  She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Services for Lavada Daniel, 90, of Athens, were held Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at the Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Bro. Jim Myers officiating.  Interment followed in Haven of Memories. Mrs. Daniel passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, in Athens.

 

She was born March 12, 1927, in Yantis to Clyde and Gladys Estelle Pruden Wooten. She grew up in the China Grove Community and went to Martins Mill High School.

 

She was a member of the Living for the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens. She sang in the China Grove Ladies Quartet for many years. 

 

She was a wonderful homemaker as her children grew up and she served others in the community.  She could cook anything, sew anything, and grow anything.

 

Mrs. Daniel is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Aubrey Daniel; brother, Herman “Sonny” Wilkerson, Jr.; and sister, Nita Jones.

 

She is survived by her son, Michael and Nancy Daniel of Murchison; daughter, Donna and Perry Smith of Athens; four grandchildren, Jared and Marcia Smith, Nathan and Jodi Smith, Ron and Meredith Daniel and Doug and Tammy Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Maddie Smith, Kurtlee Smith, Swayze Smith, Andrew Daniel and Philip Daniel; and sister, Faye Bloodworth. Pallbearers were Jared Smith, Nathan Smith, Ron Daniel and Doug Daniel.

Funeral services for Rebecca Lynn Edwards, 63, of Edgewood, formerly of Wills Point, were held Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Jonathan Gray officiating. Interment followed at Union Grove cemetery north of Wills Point. She passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017.

Charles Ray Golden

1928-2017

A memorial service for Charles Ray Golden, 89, of Athens, was held Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

Mr. Golden passed away Oct. 15, 2017, in Tyler.

He was born June 24, 1928, in Myrtle Springs to Earl W. Golden and Viola V. King.

He grew up in Myrtle Springs where he attended school. He joined the army and served as cook during the Korean War. He married Aneta Flatt June 24, 1954, and they moved to Dallas. He worked for Halco Fence Co. for several years before retiring to Athens. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting in his spare time.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Viola Golden; wife, Aneta Rose Golden; daughter, Rhonda Daniels; and five brothers and sisters, James Golden, Ben Golden, Lillian Miles, Opal Turnage and Lois Mince.

He is survived by his daughter, Cathey and David Barrington; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Curtis Golden, Jack Golden, Neva Collett and Shirley Wimberley.
